Dear Excel Church Family:
As you know, there has been a steady increase of people testing positive for Covid-19 over the past few weeks in Hawaii. As a result of the increase, new regulations were given this past week by Governor Ige and Mayor Caldwell that affect our Sunday morning Worship Service. There has been some confusion surrounding the new orders, so we wanted to write to you to clarify how they directly affect our Worship Service.
The following information was gathered and clarified after reading the mayor’s orders, and David Shimabukuro called the City & County Covid Hotline for further clarification (Thanks, David!).
First, we WILL have a live, in-person Sunday morning worship service at 9:00 a.m. We will continue to follow check-in procedures, physical distancing and facility cleaning guidelines as outlined by the CDC. These are guidelines that we have implemented from the very beginning, and we will continue to do so to ensure the health and safety of everyone who attends our service. There was some confusion about us being allowed to gather on Sunday since groups larger than five were restricted from meeting. Churches, like restaurants, are exempt from this ruling as long as we practice physical distancing and wear a mask at all times.
Second, we are allowed to have live worship music during the service provided: 1) the worship team is no closer than ten feet from the audience, and 2) there is a physical barrier (like a plexiglass partition) that separates the worship team from the people. We have purchased partitions for the worship team, and it is our hope that they will be back in action by next week. This week Sunday, however, we will be playing select worship videos to usher us into the presence of God.
Unfortunately, those who attend the in-person Worship Service will not be allowed to sing, even while wearing a mask, and can only listen to the worship music. However, we would like to strongly encourage all of you watching at home to sing with all of your hearts unto the Lord. I (Pastor Daryl) will explain more about this on Sunday morning.
Although there are some restrictions that we have to deal with, there is nothing that will ever stop us from worshipping Jesus, and I am thankful that there is nothing that will separate us from His love.
“And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. 39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Let’s all gather online or in person to praise our Lord! See you all on Sunday!
